Here I stood in the seventh grade 5’8 with legs of a six foot female, torso of a fourth grader, and wing span of an NBA basketball player. I hated my appearance. Much has changed since then thanks to puberty and southern cooked meals. Thankfully, I curved out which is sort of the only thing going for me in the whole body department. With the help of my mom and the internet I learned how to dress to compliment my body. Listed below are 4 tips to help my long leg short torso girls:
- Bring attention to your legs: To allow the torso to appear longer most would reach for low rise jeans. I disagree. My experience with wearing low rise jeans included people yelling, “crack is wack!”, and they weren’t referring to drugs. Long legs are an amazing trait, don’t ruin it with poorly fit jeans. Jeans aren’t your thing? Go for modern patterns and detail to draw attention to your lower body. Don’t feel like you have to hide your legs. If you are one that hits the gym every week go for the mini skirt and show off some skin!
- Avoid high neck lines: Look for tops that give your chest some breathing room. Not super low to expose all of your cleavage but enough to allow your upper body to appear longer. Unless you have on shorts or over the knee boots avoid the crop top ( I absolutely love crop tops but they have to be accessorized correctly). The longer the shirt the better. 3. Proper jewelry: The key word is ELONGATE! Nothing needs to crowd you. Any jewelry worn on the ears should never touch the neck. Dangling earrings that are not fussy are perfect to pair with a v neck blouse. If you go with the dangling earring try to avoid wearing a necklace. When choosing your necklace opt for the longer pieces that force others to focus in on the bottom. 4. Long sleeve garments and jumpsuits: Directing the focus to arms, choose the long sleeve garment that will draw the eye down the body. This takes attention away from both your arms and your short torso. The single most important thing to dressing a unique body style is finding what works for you and buying it in every single color! Jumpsuits work for any girl who has long legs. This is the one item in the store that may have possibly been made for us tall girls! These are just a few tips to allow you to feel confident in your wardrobe. Understand, clothes don’t make you beautiful and loving your body needs to be the first step. The above tips are not meant to restrict your options while shopping, anything can work with the right pieces paired together. Embrace your body, wear the high waist jeans for date night, grab the new trendy choker and the next time someone makes fun of those long legs just tell them you’re a model, duh!
